The 2024 summer leadership staff arrived at camp on Monday and jumped right into preparing for a fun and meaningful summer at Camp Friedenswald. They are excited to see how the summer will unfold and to witness the impact Camp will have on the hundreds of campers that will arrive throughout the coming weeks!
Meet this summer’s leadership team!
Hannah Lehman, Summer Program Assistant (Huntington, Indiana)
Hannah graduated from Goshen College this year with a Music Education degree.
“I have been coming to Friedenswald each summer since I was little and it has grown to be a very special place to me. A week at camp was always the best part of my summer, so what a blessing it is that I’m able to spend my whole summer here! This spring has been a time of change as I transition from college into the adult world, so I am looking forward to spending the summer in a place that I know will renew and transform me. This summer, I am most looking forward to experiencing joy, wonderment, and growth alongside the campers and other summer staff.”
Hannah’s favorite camp activity is campfire and her favorite spot at camp is the fen platform.
Alena Miller, Activities Coordinator (Huntington, Indiana)
Alena graduated from Goshen College last year with a degree in Spanish Education and a minor in Music.
“I lived in Alamosa, Colorado this past year with Mennonite Voluntary Service. I worked at Ortega Middle School with students learning English as a second language. After finishing up the school year, it felt right to move back closer to my parents since my dad has recently had some health problems. I’m so excited and happy to be able to spend the summer with great friends in a place that feels like home. I’m looking forward to spending a lot of time outside and doing a lot of different fun activities with campers!”
Alena’s favorite camp activity is Survival, among many others. Her favorite spot at camp is “at the lake in the morning while it’s misty and the water is quiet. And sometimes you get to see a Great Blue Heron fly across!”
Ana Neufeld Weaver, Worship Leader (Bluffton, Ohio)
Ana graduated from Goshen College this year with a degree in Music Education and a minor in Spanish.
“I wanted to work at camp this summer because camp is a place where I feel comfortable and where I feel like I belong. I am excited about building on the worship leader skills I learned last year and meeting new campers and staff! I’m most looking forward to being back outside and away from technology for the summer. I’m also looking forward to strengthening relationships I already have and building new ones.”
Ana’s favorite camp activity is campfire (“I love the feeling of everyone singing together and being fueled by the groups’ energy. It is a really special experience.”), and her favorite spot at camp is either the fen platform or under the cottonwood tree on the edge of the beach.
Amelia Eicher-Miller, Waterfront Director (West Lafayette, Indiana)
Amelia is a Mechanical Engineering major at Purdue University.
“I decided to work at camp because I wanted to spend the summer outside, and I knew it would be a great opportunity for me to grow my leadership skills. I am most looking forward to interacting with campers and working in such a beautiful place.”
Amelia’s favorite camp activity is rec (especially the all-camp games), and her favorite place at camp is Turtle Hill.
