Over the past year we’ve conducted several prescribed burns throughout Camp’s property. The purpose of burns include:
- Improve wildlife habitat
- Enhance native plant communities and
- Remove dangerous fuel loads
When properly managed, fire can rejuvenate open areas to create lush and healthy grasslands. Fire helps many open-land wildlife species, including Sandhill Cranes, which nest in the west fen at Camp Friedenswald.
Conducting prescribed burns is one way in which we seek to be good stewards of the environment and to care for God’s creation. If you have interest in assisting with a burn in the future, please let Simeon Paulson know. We’re always looking for volunteers to help!
