After 18 years of service to Camp Friedenswald, we say farewell and thank you to Vicky Solano who worked both in the kitchen and in housekeeping throughout her years. During that time she shared so much of herself with camp. Here are some of the things that Vicky brought to, and blessed us with. (The following is part of a larger blessing that the Camp staff shared with Vicky during a surprise celebration we had for her last week.)
Vicky has been a blessing to Camp Friedenswald, helping to shape it and make it what it is today. During her 18 years of service she brought…
Her stories, culture, language, beauty – all the way from Costa Rica to this small little place in southwest Michigan.
A work ethic grounded in dependability, hard-work, and commitment to doing a job well.
Creativity to her work – thinking up new systems for cleaning particularly challenging spaces with ease and efficiency.
Love and friendship. Over the years, Vicky opened herself to friendship with staff, families, summer staff, and volunteers alike.
Laughter and great sense of humor. When Vicky was at the table there was always more laughter and joy.
Vicky shared so much of herself – and her life’s energy – with Camp Friedenswald. She embodied our shared values of hospitality, community, and stewardship, among others. She made it possible for hundreds of thousands of people to find retreat and renewal in this place through the clean spaces and nourishing meals you’ve provided. Muchas Gracias, Vicky! We will miss you.
