Between June 2020 and February 2023 we served over 1200 people through the Camp Getaway. During the years when it was not safe to gather indoors together, the Getaway provided a way for people to get away from their daily routines and find respite and renewal in the peaceful woods.
As we’ve returned to many of our pre-pandemic activities, it’s time for us to set aside the Getaway. We’ve found that people are gravitating to the more traditional camp programs that seek to bring people together around worship and play together. In fact, our Winter Family Camp filled up within weeks of opening!
Thank you to everyone who participated in a Getaway, especially during it’s earliest stages. It provided us with a meaningful way of sharing the gift of Friedenswald with others, and offered a financial lifeline during a time when all of our other programming was inaccessible. Who knows, we might choose (or need) to revive it again someday…but for now, it’s time to focus our energy on other programs.
We encourage you to check out one of our other program offerings (Family Camp, Restoration Retreat, Grand Camp – among others) or consider visiting the peaceful woods on your own schedule by planning a visit.
What people said about their Getaway experience:
We honestly give everything 5 stars. I feel like you all thought of everything we needed and then you added some extra things like S’mores, and trail maps in the cabins and delicious desserts that we didn’t even know we needed.
We really appreciated all the amazing activities – the toboggan slide, the diving board and water slide, the canoes/kayaks, and the amazing food and nightly fires. It was a real luxury to be able to get away in this way.
Our family loved not having to worry about coordinating cooking or cleaning. For the introverts, the ability to vacation without any worries AND without any required socializing was perfect. We also enjoyed having our own campfire to sing around and roast s’mores on.
Great chance to relax in a beautiful setting.
